Sound Baths: everything you need to know
Updated: 1 day ago
What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is an immersive experience in which you rest comfortably while a practitioner plays a collection of resonant instruments around you.
Despite the name, there is no water involved. You are simply "bathed" in layers of sound.
At Solunara, I create a soundscape using gongs, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls and other instruments, allowing different tones, frequencies and vibrations to move through the space.
Unlike listening to a piece of music, there is no melody you need to follow and nothing you are expected to do.
For many people, that makes a sound bath an opportunity to stop focusing on what comes next and simply spend some uninterrupted time resting and listening.
What happens at Solunara sound baths?
Arrive
You'll be welcomed into our intimate sound space in Bromham and given time to settle in.
If it is your first sound bath, don't worry. I will explain everything you need to know before the session begins.
Get comfortable
You'll make yourself comfortable before the sound journey begins.
Wear something you can relax in. You'll receive further information about what you may wish to bring when you book.
Listen
Once everyone has settled, Igradually introduce the instruments.
Gongs and singing bowls create changing layers of sound that move through the room, from quiet, delicate tones to richer and more enveloping vibrations.
You don't need to concentrate on them. You can simply listen.
Rest
There is no requirement to meditate, visualise or reach a particular state.
You might focus closely on the sounds. Your mind might wander. You might become deeply relaxed.
Every experience is different, and that's absolutely fine.
Return
Towards the end of the session, the soundscape gradually quietens and you'll be given time to gently return before leaving Solunara and continuing with your day.
Your first sound bath
You're in very good company.
Many people arrive at Solunara having never experienced a sound bath before.
You don't need to practise yoga or be flexible. You don't need to know how to meditate.
You don't need to understand sound healing.
And you don't have to consider yourself particularly "spiritual".
A Solunara sound bath can simply be an hour when nobody needs anything from you.
An opportunity to put your phone away, get comfortable and experience what happens when you allow yourself to stop for a while.
The sounds of Solunara
Every Solunara sound journey is created live rather than played from a recording.
I work with a carefully chosen collection of instruments, including:
Planetary & Elemental Gongs
Rich, powerful instruments capable of creating extraordinary layers of sound and vibration.
Himalayan Singing Bowls
Beautifully resonant bowls producing warm, complex tones.
Crystal Singing Bowls
Clear, sustained sounds that bring another texture to the soundscape.

Alongside these are other carefully selected instruments, introduced throughout the journey to create an experience that changes and evolves around you. As a result, no two sessions need feel exactly the same.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to have experienced a sound bath before?
Not at all. Beginners are very welcome and I will explain everything you need to know before the session begins.
Do I need to meditate?
No. A sound bath isn't a meditation class and you aren't expected to empty your mind or achieve a particular state. You can simply get comfortable and listen.
What should I wear?
Comfort is the priority. Choose clothes in which you will be happy lying and relaxing for the duration of the session.
Can I come on my own?
Absolutely. You don't need to bring a partner or friend and many guests attend group sessions individually.
How long is a group sound bath?
A Solunara group sound bath lasts approximately 60 minutes. Please allow additional time for arriving, settling in and leaving afterwards.
How much does it cost?
Group sound baths cost £25 per person.
Where are the sound baths held?
At Solunara studio in Bromham, Wiltshire.
Our intimate setting allows me to keep group sessions personal rather than creating the feeling of a large class.
We're conveniently located for guests travelling from Devizes, Rowde, Calne, Chippenham, Melksham and the surrounding Wiltshire area.
Full directions and arrival information are provided when you book.
Are sound baths suitable for everyone?
Sound experiences may not be appropriate for everybody. If you are pregnant, have an implanted medical device, have a medical condition or have any concerns about whether a sound bath is appropriate for you, please contact Solunara before booking and seek appropriate medical advice where necessary.
