A Guide to Floating Sound Baths
Updated: 2 days ago
What is a floating sound bath?
A sound bath with a difference.
Imagine settling into the gentle cocoon of a suspended hammock, closing your eyes and allowing yourself to be completely still.
Then the first sound begins.
A singing bowl.
The resonance of a gong.
Layers of sound gradually moving around you as you rest suspended above the floor.
Welcome to our floating sanctuary — Solunara's immersive floating sound experience in the heart of Wiltshire.
What happens at a floating sound bath?
Float. Listen. Let go.
My floating sound bath brings together the comforting sensation of resting in a hammock and the immersive sounds and vibrations of a private sound journey.
Rather than lying on a mat, you'll settle into your own suspended hammock, allowing the fabric to gently support and cocoon you.
I then create a live soundscape around you using planetary and elemental gongs, Himalayan and crystal singing bowls and other carefully chosen instruments.
With your body supported and your eyes closed if you wish, your only task is to listen.
Arrive
Step inside Solunara and leave the outside world at the door.
There is time to arrive, settle and become comfortable in the space before your experience begins.
Cocoon
You'll be shown how to settle comfortably into your suspended hammock.
Once inside, the fabric gently surrounds and supports you, creating your own private cocoon within the sanctuary.
Listen
The sound journey begins.
I gradually introduce singing bowls, gongs and other instruments, building an evolving soundscape around you.
Some sounds are delicate and distant. Others are rich, enveloping and deeply resonant.
Float
With no need to watch, respond or concentrate, you can simply allow the hammock to support you while the sounds unfold.
There is nothing you need to achieve. Nowhere else you need to be.
Return
As the final sounds fade, there is time to gently return to the room before leaving your hammock and bringing your floating sanctuary experience to a close.
What makes floating sound baths unique?
A traditional sound bath usually takes place while you are resting on a mat.
A floating soundbath changes the physical experience completely.
The hammock creates a softly enclosed space around you and removes the sensation of lying directly against the floor.
For some guests, the feeling of being gently supported and cocooned makes it particularly easy to settle.
Combined with the changing sounds of the gongs and singing bowls, it creates an unusual sensory experience that is difficult to replicate elsewhere.
The sounds of Solunara
Every Solunara sound journey is created live rather than played from a recording.
I work with a carefully chosen collection of instruments, including:
Planetary & Elemental Gongs
Rich, powerful instruments capable of creating extraordinary layers of sound and vibration.
Himalayan Singing Bowls
Beautifully resonant bowls producing warm, complex tones.
Crystal Singing Bowls
Clear, sustained sounds that bring another texture to the soundscape.

Alongside these are other carefully selected instruments, introduced throughout the journey to create an experience that changes and evolves around you. As a result, no two sessions need feel exactly the same.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to have experienced a sound bath before?
Not at all. Beginners are very welcome and I will explain everything you need to know before the session begins.
Do I need to meditate?
No. A sound bath isn't a meditation class and you aren't expected to empty your mind or achieve a particular state. You can simply get comfortable and listen.
What should I wear?
Comfort is the priority. Choose clothes in which you will be happy lying and relaxing for the duration of the session.
Will the hammock hold me safely?
The hammocks and their fittings are designed for suspended use. I will show you how to enter and settle into your hammock before your experience begins.
Please let me know if you have any mobility concerns or questions about whether the hammock will be suitable for you.
Do I swing during the experience?
Our floating sound baths are not an aerial exercise class and you won't be expected to perform movements or poses. The purpose of the hammock is to provide a comfortable suspended place in which to rest during your sound journey.
Can two people experience it together?
Yes. A Solunara floating sound bath can be enjoyed as a private shared experience, making it particularly suitable for partners, friends or family members.
Where are the sound baths held?
At Solunara studio in Bromham, Wiltshire.
.
Our intimate setting allows me to keep group sessions personal rather than creating the feeling of a large class.
We're conveniently located for guests travelling from Devizes, Rowde, Calne, Chippenham, Melksham and the surrounding Wiltshire area.
Full directions and arrival information are provided when you book.
Are floating sound baths suitable for everyone?
The experience involves getting into and out of a suspended hammock, so it may not be suitable for everybody.
If you have mobility limitations, are pregnant, have an implanted medical device or medical condition, or have any other concerns about whether either the hammock or sound experience is suitable for you, please contact Solunara before booking and seek appropriate medical advice where necessary.
